Tough Loss for the Chargers

I watched much of the Chargers playoff game against the Patriots, and was disappointed that they lost. But considering the circumstances, they didn’t lose by much. Why didn’t the Chargers win on Sunday? In my opinion, they didn’t have the reserves — they couldn’t play their best people because they had exhausted them in the games leading up to Sunday’s game. Although they didn’t make it to the Super Bowl, they got farther in the playoffs than they have in some years. This may serve them well while they try to put together a new stadium deal here in the San Diego area.

Bob – Imagine my surprise when I stumbled across your blog and read about your life achievments. I live in Madison,WI and have always wondered what happened to alot of my friends from Grosse Ile. Your accomplishments amaze me. Congratulations on a life well lived. Jean Nagle Sumi.

Jean: It’s great to hear from you. I’ve forgotten where we went to school together — Trenton or Grosse Ile High. I remember often spending time in the evening talking with you on the phone, comparing homework, but I lost track of you totally. What’s happened to you?

Bob:We went to grades 1-8 in Grosse Ile and high school in Trenton and U, of Mich. It’s hard to condense the next 60 years but I married a Naval Aviator. We had 6 really neat kids who are all married and have 11 grandchildren (one living in San Diego) After Harold retired from the Navy then from S.CJohnson in Racine we moved to Madison,Wi where 4 of our children and families live. You will be interested that we did alot of sailing and racing while in Racine on Lake Mich.Had a 45 ft boat and family for crew-raced the Chicago-Mac race for many years. Harold died suddenly in 2000. I have stayed in our house (not old enough for a retirement place) and besides I have a beautiful garden which I designed and nurtured for 20 years. It has been a great life. Jean

Jean: Sounds like you’ve had an exciting life up to now, and surely you’re finding some new adventures. Most people at our age usually do some traveling. Wisconsin is a beautiful state — I’m sure you’re finding lots to do there. From your note I gather you still have your boat — is that true? What do your kids do? See you on the blog… — Bob

Bob: No we don’t have the boat still – sold it and bought a condo in Door county on green Bay several years ago- doesn’t go nearly as fast as the boat but there is alot less upkeep. Enjoyed the picture of your boat – is it a motor sailer? Do you remember the sail boats my Dad had? Am off to S. Carolina -Pawleys Island to get out of this crummy Wisc. weather – it has been a dreadful winter. Jean

Jean: In your recent note you asked if the boat is a motorsailer. No, it’s a powerboat — about 55 feet long with diesel engines. I still have a small interest in my old sailboat Blue Moon, but every Friday when possible is spent motoring to ports of opportunity, of which there aren’t many. This is true, unless it’s raining, and believe it or not we’ve had a lot of rain on Fridays this winter. — Bob
