Fire Engines, Sailing, and Walter Munk’s Birthday
3 Comments Published by Dr. Beyster October 22nd, 2008 in Employee Ownership, Network Solutions, San Diego.Last week was very eventful for me. The excitement started on Thursday when my wife Betty, Robert Craig, Keith Mahler, and a group from the San Diego Foundation traveled to the hills in San Pasqual, California, to view the fire engine we bought for the Regional Fire Department. We also purchased a new ambulance, which will service the region.
On Friday we took my boat Solutions to Oceanside. This trip included skipper Ron Arnold, Ed Murphy — who was in charge of acquisitions at SAIC — and me. This as usual was a very pleasant event.
On Sunday Betty and I went to Walter Munk’s house to help celebrate his 91st birthday. Walter is one of the world’s most accomplished oceanographers. He had a group of about 20 good friends over for lunch, which included the mandatory birthday cake.
I am pleased to see that more people are visiting the blog. If you are interested in making a contribution to our new book about Network Solutions, please let us know so we can set up an interview.

You have touched on several passions of mine in the subject of your blog- Fire Engines and Sailing
Bill Proffer and I are kindred spirits on sailing, I have sailed with him in SD and he has joined me on my boat which I keep in the Baltimore Inner Harbor, a 28 ft O’day
I am also a volunteer Paramedic in the state of Maryland and volunteer in Frederick County, so i know what having a new engine and ambulance means to a local fire station/dept; your contribution is very kind and I can tell you it really means a lot to those guys, more than you will ever know.
Best wishes

Jon: Are you still getting your boat out, or has bad weather shut you in? — Bob
Hi Dr B
I leave it in the water, in the slip it doesn’t ice over in the Inner Harbor, so when the weather stays warm (>42 degree) on a sunny day I can head on out. I do winterize the engine so I have to flush it again when I do take it out, a small inconvenience. Here is my website with some boat pictures
