Trip to Ann Arbor

This past weekend was quite an eventful one for me. On Thursday a small group of us flew to the Willow Run airport between Detroit and Ann Arbor. We then drove to Ann Arbor, where we spent the night after having dinner at the Gandy Dancer Restaurant, which is in an old restored train station. The food was good and the old stone building brought back memories from my years in Ann Arbor.

On Friday we visited the University of Michigan, where we spent some time at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. I was briefed on the work that we are supporting, and we had the opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes tour. They are doing good work there. I was very particularly interested this visit in the work the school is doing in the neurosciences and robotics. I also had the opportunity to personally congratulate the first Beyster Fellow, Chih-Chun Chia.

Saturday was devoted to watching the University of Michigan football team play our rival Michigan State. The game was a close one — 12 to 10 — but we managed to come from behind to win. You’ve never seen a stadium like the one at the University of Michigan, it’s just beautiful.

We returned home Sunday. It was an exhausting trip, but I’m glad that I made it. I couldn’t have done it without my support team, and I thank you for your help.

I have included some photos from the trip.
