Awards and Interviews
4 Comments Published by Dr. Beyster September 9th, 2009 in Employee Ownership, FED.I was pleased to learn of the recent announcement by the Center for Business Education at the Aspen Institute that Daphne Berry was selected the winner of the 2009 Dissertation Proposal Award. This award — made in collaboration with the Foundation for Enterprise Development and the Employee Ownership Foundation — is specifically intended to identify innovative research and high-impact ideas focused on shared capitalism through employee ownership. Daphne’s dissertation research will explore whether home health care aides are more or less productive depending on the structure of the organization that employs them, and she will receive an honorarium, research guidance, and recognition at an awards breakfast to be held at Ernst & Young’s corporate headquarters.
A previous employee of SAIC UK — Mike Mackay — was recently interviewed by CIO magazine. Mike is now CIO of the Youth Justice Board of England and Wales. The interviewer asked Mike to name the most influential person in his career, and I was very pleased to read that I was mentioned. I remember Mike as a prolific idea guy, a hard worker, and a great personality. I think you’ll find the entire CIO interview of Mike to be of interest.

Admittedly, I haven’t read nor reviewed Ms Berry’s dissertation proposal. Overall, I find the concept and business model of “employee ownership” both fascinating as well as intriguing.
Moreover, it appears that home health alternative care is both effective as well as cost-effective. Daphne’s research will be quite revealing with respect to home health technician’s productivity relational to their respective parent organization(s). –Andre, M.
Hello Bob,
I see from your blog that you read my CIO.co.uk interview.
I thought straightaway of you when asked that most-influential-person question: I know where I got my learning from and Im more than happy to credit it.
How are you keeping.
Regards
Mike Mackay
Bob – a voice from your past – I am John Mitchell a retired Navy RADM – formerly the Director at Navy Strategic Systems. Yours was the last job interview I ever did ( we had dinner at Tyson’s corner. I went to work for Bechtel ( the only other job interview I did!) and ended up running lots of parts of the DOE nuclear Weapons Complex. I ran the Yucca Mountain Project ( what a zoo and a travesty) and SAIC was part of our team. I am now fully retired and doing all intentionally-not-for-profit work. I am working with Bruce DeMars on building a Cold War Gallery for the Navy Musuem among other things.
I get to San Diego sometimes as John Benepe is a long time friend from my Navy days.
I hope life is treating you well! You did so much for the country in so many ways in those times past, you deserve all the fun and intellectual excitment you can stand. Thanks john mitchell
John: After reading your post, I’m wondering if you have read my book The SAIC Solution. Our paths have crossed often during the course of our careers. I have not seen John Benepe here in San Diego. He’s a long-time employee of SAIC, and I would like to see him. If you will email your mailing address to me, I’ll send you a copy of The SAIC Solution. — Bob
